St. Louis Mental Illness Disability Lawyers

Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois Social Security Disability Lawyers

Recognized by the Social Security Administration (SSA) in its list of impairments, mental illness could qualify you for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. However, suffering from a mental illness will not automatically qualify you for benefits; you need an experienced attorney to lay out your options and help you pursue your claim.

At Crowe & Shanahan in St. Louis, we provide personalized representation to our clients. We will take the time to get to know you and your unique needs. You will never be just another case file number.

While other Social Security disability practices provide a nationwide practice, we pride ourselves on focusing all our efforts on residents in St. Louis, eastern Missouri and southern Illinois. To schedule a meeting with one of our St. Louis mental illness disability attorneys, call us at 314-231-6660 or toll free at 877-213-7793.

Your Mental Illness Must Be Diagnosed and Demonstrated

Simply having a mental illness that is recognized by the SSA — such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) — is not enough to result in benefits. You must have your illness diagnosed by a physician — preferably a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist — and be able to demonstrate that the illness is having an impact on your ability to perform minimum job functions.

Your Mental Illness Does Not Have to Be Permanent

To secure benefits, you will not have to prove that there is no hope for your illness. You must simply prove that you are incapable of working for 12 continuous months. If you are able to return to work after 12 months, you may be eligible for back pay after this "closed period" of disability.
