BOB CROWE: When a new client comes to us, usually they have no income. They're sick or they're injured. Sometimes, they have no way to support themselves. Whether or not we're able to help them win this case makes a big difference to the quality of their lives, whether they have housing, whether they have medical care. We take our responsibilities to our clients very seriously. We know how much they need our help.
JULIE SHANAHAN: We spend a lot of time preparing our clients for hearing. I think that for so many of my clients, the scariest part is not knowing what to expect. So I spend a lot of time making sure they know exactly where to go the day of the hearing, exactly what's going to happen at the hearing, and preparing them for the judge that they're going to be in front of so that when they actually are sitting in that room, it's not as frightening to them as it needs to be.
BOB CROWE: Social Security denies 65 to 70 percent of all claims for disability benefits. People have to understand that they have the right to appeal. And they can succeed at their appeal. When you get to your hearing with the administrative law judge, you need to have your evidence prepared. You need to have your testimony prepared. And you need the help of someone who knows what they're doing.
