Tips for filing for social security disability

On Behalf of | Feb 23, 2023 | Social Security Disability

To receive social security, you must know how to complete the application. Doing this correctly will help you maximize your benefits.

Here are several approaches you can take to help improve your chances of receiving benefits.

List all of your conditions

List all of your medical problems, even if they seem trivial. If you have any old injuries, list them if they still cause you issues. It can be easy to forget about your older injuries, especially if you have learned to deal with the resulting issues. However, these and newer problems can often increase your chances of getting benefits.

Be honest in your claim

It would be best, to be honest about what you can and cannot do in your claim. Do not exaggerate. Also, at any required doctor’s appointment, be sure not to respond that you are okay when you are not. Make sure to explain the medical and psychological problems that your physician is treating you for. Explain that you have followed your doctor’s recommendations and taken any prescriptions as directed.

Respond to the process

Like with state disability, you may receive a written or phone request for extra information. If you cannot answer these requests promptly, let the office know. When answering questions, only answer what they asked. If you must visit with a different doctor, attend your appointment and cooperate.

You can do several things to improve your chances of getting disability benefits. In short, you need to have your supporting information organized. Letters from your doctor can be a big help. Letters from your employer documenting your struggle can also help. Make sure to handle your application and the following process promptly.
